A visit to Winnipeg is always fun, whether you’re a first timer or have been dozens of times, there’s always something new and fun to find in the city. Visiting in the winter is charming, but a Winnipeg Summer is the best – for so many reasons. Here are 10 to get you started on your Winnipeg Summer visit:

1) Go sip craft beer on the Barley Brothers fabulous new patio in the sunshine. Truth be told there are lots of excellent micro-breweries and brew-pubs in Winnipeg, and you could make a great day out of visiting a few of them. What makes Barley Brothers stand out is the fact that it has the most beer taps of any lounge in Canada, and they offer beers from breweries around the world. So whatever your favourite kind of beer is, you’re bound to find it here.

2) Chill out on a blanket listening to chill tunes at Winnipeg Folk Fest from July 6th – 9th. Performers include the legendary Bruce Cockburn, Feist, Choir Choir Choir, Old Man Luedecke, The Shins, and many more.

3) Treat yourself to the most delicious Argentinian style gelato at Eva’s Gelato and Coffee Bar. Go for Super White Chocolate, Lemon Pie, Guava, or plan old Chocolate – each one is dreamily good. Eva’s also offers a couple of dairy-free options on their menu.

4) Wander the glorious Leo Mol Sculpture Garden in Assiniboine Park. Beautifully planted, the gardens feature many of Mol’s impressive bronze pieces, an indoor gallery, and the Leo Mol School House Studio, where you can learn about the process this much loved local artist used to create his works.

5) Take an evening paddle at FortWhyte Alive, where you can rent a kayak on a Tuesday or Thursday night for just $10. This huge nature park at the south of the city is a beautiful place to visit any time, but this is such a lovely way to spend an evening.

6) Get a culture fix watching Romeo and Juliet in the Ruins nightly until June 24th. (The ruins are on the site of an old Trappist monastery.)

7) Take in free performances by the Royal Winnipeg Ballet at Assiniboine Park on July 26-28. Take along a lawn chair or blanket, as you’ll be sat on the grass enjoying the dancers.

8) Try the soft-serve at the Bridge Drive In, known to locals as the BDI. They’ve been dishing it out since 1957, and it is so good. Try a Goog for a rich dessert option (a blueberry shake topped with a hot fudge sundae, bananas, and whipped cream).

9) The world converges on Winnipeg at Folklorama, held August 6 – 19 and the largest and longest-running folk festival of its kind. The event is divided into Cultural Pavilions, each offering performances and flavours from the country it represents.

10) Fill your face with perfectly seasoned BBQ at Winnipeg Ribfest, August 25 – 27 at The Forks. There’s also live music and a beer garden to enjoy.
