Not sure what do do in Winnipeg once the sun goes down? Bored of the same old things that you always do when you’re visiting there? Don’t worry, we’ve got plenty of Winnipeg nightlife suggestions here to keep you entertained whether you’re a first time visitor or head to the ‘Peg regularly:

Karaoke all week long. If your idea of a great night out is belting out tunes in front of a crowd, then you’ll love the Limelite Tavern in St Vital, as they have disco lit karaoke seven nights a week. Flat screen TVs all around the bar display the words to your signature song so the whole bar will be singing along, and you can feel like a rockstar up there. Karaoke at Saffron’s Restaurant is also lots of fun, and you never know who you’ll see there – Forest Whitaker was there last week with the crew from a film he’s shooting in the city.

Go for classy cocktails. Prefer your cocktails painstakingly handcrafted? Winnipeg has some fabulous cocktail bars to spend an evening at, including the rather lovely Albert Street Cocktail Company. Everything about their cocktails is perfect, from the finest ingredients to them being served in the correct and specific glass, and in keeping with the retro gangster theme of the place the cocktails have fun names like Crime of the Century.

Catch a live show. Winnipeg has lots of live music venues. So many in fact that you’ll be able to catch live music of some sort most nights of the week (check out listings here). The Good Will Social Club is always a fun spot for live music and DJ nights. The Times Change(d) High and Lonesome Club is a high-energy venue that showcases jazz, blues, folk and various other musical styles, and also hosts a weekly comedy night. The Handsome Daughter is a fantastic punk and alternative venue.

Find your favourite locals bar. Winnipeg is full of great bars that are full of authentic charm. Check out the Toad in the Hole, a British pub with entertainment in the basement (karaoke, comedy, and live music), which also serves up great pub grub too. Bar Italia is a fun spot with a massive patio, and DJs spinning tunes until the early hours of the morning. The Woodbine Hotel has the oldest bar in western Canada, and has plenty of character (in terms of both old-timers and Pabst Blue Ribbon loving hipsters).
