The Stone Garden at Executive Suites by Roseman

The subtle but stunning beauty of the stone garden at the furnished Executive Suites by Roseman in Winnipeg has been seen by many but the story behind it has never been told. The owners of Roseman Corp, operators of Executive Suites by Roseman, decided to do something very special prior to the opening of their new furnished rental apartments. The design came from the inspired thinking of Ian Corne, CPESC, M.Land.Arch., B.E.S. and was created with the artistry of Todd Braun, stone artist, Elemental Stone, of the famous stone garden in Altona, Manitoba.

The red granite, brought from Todd Braun’s favourite quarry, was cut in his beautifully imagined stone yard in Altona and trucked into Winnipeg and lifted by crane into place in a most elaborate and exciting afternoon. Braun directed the placement of the stone in accordance with Ian Corne’s plan. In keeping with the overall theme of high quality corporate suites in an unhotel environment, the stone fence raises the standards of the furnished executive suite business everywhere. Milton Bogoch, President of Roseman Corp, said that “this unprecedented investment in a work of public art brings quiet pleasure to everybody who sees it.”

The design intentionally merges the thinking of both Ian Corne, the designer and Todd Braun, the artist. When you see the fence, you see stone growing from the earth, integrated into the rolling landscape of the front of the building to form a single picture of natural unity. The rich red of the granite stands out from the green of the grass and the white of the snow. Standing behind this picture is the frame, a natural fence of uncut cotoneaster, providing a boundary between the public and the private areas of the building.
