Yahoo! And, that’s not yeehaw, for reasons that nobody knows. It’s the Calgary Stampede. The Stampede bills itself as the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth. We know why. It’s on for 10 days in early July, and the whole city is involved. It’s not just what goes on at the huge Stampede grounds, where you can see the class of the world’s cowboys competing, or the chuck wagon races which are more thrilling than any race you have ever seen; it’s what goes on at every private and public venue in the city.

From the comfort of your corporate suites in Calgary you can venture out to the free Stampede breakfasts every day. With music and western breakfasts, it is western hospitality at its best. Come back to your Calgary apartment for rent and relax for a while at the end of a Stampede day and then go back for the music and the chucks and grandstand show in the evening.

When you visit Calgary during Stampede, there is only one way to dress. Dress western. It’s hard to convince people who aren’t from Calgary, but the formal attire for work (if you can find anybody working) is western, from the boots up to the hat. No western clothes? And if you think it looks strange to go to a formal meeting in jeans and a jean jacket or western shirt and a western hat, look around you. Calgary’s million citizens are all in on the fun.

Business does get done in Calgary during the Stampede, but you have to go to the corporate tents to find the business people. By invitation only, the entertainment, food and drink are essential to a good working Stampede.

And don’t just drop in on an office during Stampede. As often as not, you will get a locked door and a sign taped to the door: ‘Gone Stampedin.’
