Love Christmas but staying in Calgary this month over the holidays? As lovely as our suites are, we don’t think you should just stay inside and watch Elf for the 27th time, we want you to get outside and enjoy some of the fabulous stuff going on over the holidays in Calgary. Here’s a round up of some great stuff going on in the city:

Bright lights in the city
There are lots of fantastic light displays to enjoy in the city. Going for a drive through the neighbourhoods you’ll see some crazy displays (and there’s an interactive map showing some of the best ones here), but there are also fun organized displays such as Calgary Zoo’s Zoolights, the Airdrie Festival of Lights, and walking down 5th Avenue in the downtown core you’ll see some gorgeous displays too.

Festive Entertainment
There are few tales that invoke the true spirit of Christmas like Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, and you can see this masterpiece playing at the Calgary Theatre this month right up ‘til Christmas Eve. Canadian icon Stuart McLean will be recording his Vinyl Café Christmas shows in Calgary this year, on December 4th and 5th at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium, so if you’re a Dave and Morely story fan, you’re in for a treat. The Alberta Ballet is performing The Nutcracker at the Southern Alberta Jubille Auditorium from December 18th – 24th.

Visiting Santa
If you’re traveling with your family and need to get that obligatory Santa visit in, then visiting the historic Lougheed House Museum is a pretty cool way to do that, as they have a traditional Victorian era Santa as well as WWII era crafts and historic displays (so much more interesting than lining up at the mall for hours). Some days they have musical entertainment too. There’s also a Santa Claus Parade happening in Airdrie on December 6th along Main Street from 5-6pm. Christmas in Calgary is fun, so be sure to get out there and enjoy it.
