Calgary is such a fun city to visit whether you’re a kid or just a kid at heart. There are lots of fantastic family attractions in Calgary that you should try to get to when visiting the city. Here are five that you really should try to get to:

Calgary Zoo is an excellent destination that animal mad kids will love. There you’ll find a huge area dedicated to Canadian wildlife (the wolf enclosure is especially cool), a fun penguin exhibit, and lots of other animals from all over the world to admire. There’s also a newly renovated Prehistoric Park featuring animatronic dinosaurs, and the zoo hosts lots of fun events throughout the year from penguin walks to zoofaris to lantern festivals. Give yourself plenty of time to explore the zoo, as it is huge.

Telus Spark is Calgary’s science museum. There are lots of fun and interactive exhibits that kids love to run wild at (such as these awesome cloud cannons), as well as a planetarium with regular shows throughout the day, and lots of daily programming to ensure that whatever age your kids are, or what they are interested in, they’ll be entertained. Bonus: There’s a fantastic playground outside with a massive 63ft long slide and lots of dangerous looking play equipment that adventurous kids will love.

Calaway Park is THE place to head if you love rollercoasters and thrill rides. With everything from The Vortex – a rollercoaster that twists and turns and goes upside down – to the Timber Falls log flume for bigger kids, right down to the many tamer rides suited to smaller kids, plenty of live entertainment, concessions, a 3D theatre, and more. this is a great place to head for a day of silly fun.

Calgary Tower is a city centre attraction that everyone should visit once and won’t eat much time out of your visit. Head up 1228 metres in an elevator and then dare each other to walk out on the perilous looking (but perfectly safe) glass floor. The panoramic views of the city and way beyond are incredible, and there’s an interactive show you can enjoy too if you’re interested that comes with the price of admission.

Winsport at Calgary’s Olympic Park is a cool destination not only because you get to explore the site of the Calgary Winter Olympics, but also because there’s tons of great stuff to do there in summer and winter. In the summer the park is home to North America’s fastest zip-line that descends the 90m ski-jump tower (and yes, it is truly terrifying), and you can take a go-kart down the luge track, as well as play mini-golf, go mountain biking and enjoy many other activities. Come winter, you can enjoy skiing, snowboarding, and bobsledding adventures galore. Adrenaline junkies may find their spiritual home here.
