Love dessert? Always craving something sweet? Well lucky you – Calgary is full of excellent places to grab a sweet treat. Whether you’ve a hankering for donuts or the kind of desserts you find at fancy restaurants, we promise you will not be disappointed in Calgary desserts. Here are some of our favourite places to get a sugar high in the city:
Jelly Modern serves up the kind of donuts that you fantasize about for months after eating them. Whether you order the maple bacon (topped with bacon), the rich Belgian chocolate dipped, salted caramel, or go for a more traditional style jelly donut, we promise you will not be disappointed. You can pick up Jelly Modern treats at their flagship store on 8 Street SW, where they also have a cafe so you can sip on a coffee to balance out the sugar, as well as a food truck and several other locations you can pick up their wares around town.
Charcut Roast House doesn’t have a huge dessert menu, but they excel at creating absolutely incredible desserts that although big enough to share you simply won’t want to! The French Toast Pie with Brown Butter Bourbon Ice-cream is the stuff of legends, and the Salted Caramel Milk Chocolate Pie is just dreamy. This will of course be preceded by a superb dinner as Charcut is one of Calgary’s very best restaurants, so you cant lose by visiting there.
Ruth’s Chris Steak House offers up lots of very tasty items on its dessert menu, but most of them are the ubiquitous desserts that you find in restaurants anywhere in North America (bread pudding, flourless chocolate cake etc) but their showstopper dessert, the Caramelized Banana Cream Pie is amazing. Flakey pastry is filled with white chocolate banana cream and then topped with caramelized bananas. Bonus: As the restaurant is located in the 191 metre high Calgary Tower, you can take a trip up to the top post dessert and get an amazing view out over the city.
Perogy Boyz Food Truck has these apple cinnamon perogies that they serve with whipped cream and oh my goodness they are fantastic. So worth tracking down the truck for.
