Whether you’re visiting Calgary for business or pleasure, it is easy to fall in love with the city’s fabulous food scene and many cool attractions. There’s tons of fun stuff to do in the city, and in recent years several interesting new attractions have opened, meaning there are even more fun things to do in Calgary, and some of these are pretty unique too.

Hone your axe-throwing skills at BATL. The Backyard Axe Throwing League has been allowing people to unleash their inner viking and throw axes at blocks of wood in a somewhat controlled environment since 2006, and has locations across Canada. This year they opened in Calgary, and if you’re looking for a different and fun night out, or even a really interesting business meeting, you should check BATL out. Taking your own food and booze is encouraged, and each session comes with coaching before you’re allowed around the sharp objects solo.

Have breakfast with penguins. The Calgary Zoo offers a number of unique educational programs, and one of them allows you to enjoy a delicious pancake breakfast before being given a private viewing an information session in the Penguin Plunge area. There are four different types of penguin at the Calgary Zoo, and watching them at play is very sweet.

Have a few drinks, paint a masterpiece. At Vin Gogh, even the inexperienced (and potentially untalented) get to paint a masterpiece while sipping on wine and chatting with friends. This super laid back art class with booze is a really fun activity to do as a group, or even for a date night. Bonus: You get to take a work of art home, and you don’t need to do any of the cleaning up afterwards.

Might as well JUMP at Extreme Air Park. Calgary has Canada’s biggest trampoline park, with 42,000 square foot of trampolines to leap across, flip over on, and fall into. You can go there and just go crazy, or join in one of the many fitness classes on offer if you want to mix-up your cardio workouts when visiting Calgary. This is super fun whether you’re a kid, or just a kid at heart.

Science fun for grown-ups at Telus Spark. By day, Telus Spark is an awesome science centre much loved by families and very much kid orientated. Once a month though, there’s an adult only night with a licensed bar and music, as well as a bunch of themed activities, exhibits, and workshops designed to make you think, and have fun with.
