Spring may not have actually sprung yet, but visitors to Calgary have a lot to look forward to in the coming month. There are some awesome Calgary festivals and events coming up, bringing delicious food, dance, theatre, and sports to the city. Here’s a round-up of what’s going on in March to help you plan out your next great trip to Calgary.

Calgary Home and Garden Show (March 2nd through 5th) is a renovation lover (or fantasists’) dream. There you’ll find vendors, workshops, expert speakers, celebrities, and inspiration by the bucket-load.

Calgary Maple Festival des Sucres (March 4th through 5th) has been serving up sweet taffy and festivities for 15 years now. The event is a celebration of French Canadian, Metis and First Nations culture in Calgary as much as it is maple syrup, and takes place in Heritage Park. Expect arts and cultural performances, wagon rides, live performances, and traditional foods.

The Big Taste Festival (March 3rd through 12th) is Calgary’s most highly anticipated food event. This year Big Taste sees 95 restaurants in Calgary serving up special prix fixe three or five course meals, with lunches ranging from $15 – $25, and dinners from $25 up to way more for signature dinner events. This festival offers a great opportunity to experience some of the best restaurants in Calgary at greatly reduced prices.

Calgary International Auto and Truck Show (March 15th through 19th) is a gear heads dream. Come see the hottest sports cars and trucks, as well as newest models from VW and other brands, and enjoy fun car-themed events such as the annual Vehicles and Violins fundraiser event with the Calgary Philharmonic.

Festival of Animated Objects (March 16th through 19th) is a four day celebration of puppets, with workshops and performances by world-class puppeteers and makers of puppets.

St Patricks Day in the city (March 17th) is going to be lots of fun. The Irish Cultural Society of Calgary is hosting their annual family friendly celebration filled with music and dancing, food and drink. Celtic fiddle legend Ashley MacIsaac is playing with the Calgary Philharmonic. There are Irish whiskey tastings at Willow Park Wines and Spirits, and plenty of Irish themed parties and gigs at bars throughout the city.

Prana Yoga Festival (March 17th to 19th) is happening for the first time in Calgary this year, and offers a full schedule of workshops and sessions that will improve your practice, and maybe open your mind too. For yoga devotees, this festival is going to be a fabulous celebration of body and spirit.

Calgary International Salsa Congress (March 24th through 26th) offers a steamy weekend of dance as some of the world’s top salsa dancers are flown in to perform and teach festival attendees. There are workshops and performances throughout the weekend, with each day terminating with a huge salsa dance party.
