Winnipeg is a super fun city for families to visit. Throughout the summer months there is plenty going on to keep all ages occupied, and happy. Here are three reasons to book your summer trip with the kids to Winnipeg (and when you do, be sure to book your stay in one of our family friendly Winnipeg suites).

Festivals galore. Starting in June, there’s the awesome Winnipeg International Children’s Festival which serves up for days of performances and fun for little ones. Also in June, the Red River Exhibition has a huge midway, loads of family friendly attractions, and nightly concerts. July offers the massive Winnipeg Folk Festival and the streets fill with buskers for the International Fringe Theatre Festival. In August the brilliant Folklorama takes over the city, with 40 cultural pavilions offering dance, music, performance, and food from all over the world.

Fabulous attractions. The Assiniboine Park Zoo’s Journey to Churchill exhibit is amazing – you get to watch polar bears swimming through glass tunnels above you, or can watch them from fence free viewing areas thanks to clever architectural design. There are tons of hands-on learning opportunities at the Manitoba Children’s Museum. The Manitoba Museum has natural history exhibits where kids can learn all about the animals that live on the prairies and up in the arctic, plenty of programming for families, and a cool planetarium too. Head to FortWhyte Alive where you can watch the buffalo roam and do all kinds of cool outdoor stuff (kayaking, paddle-boarding, hiking, guided nature walks).

Stuff your faces. The food scene in Winnipeg is amazing. A great way to experience the best in local cuisine, and ensure that you get something that everyone will like, is to head for The Forks Market. There’s a central seating area where you can converge and try food from all the different stalls there (you can eat something upscale while the kids have fish and chips or hotdogs). You can also order craft beer and wine there to wash it all down with. For sweet treats, check out Bronuts or Oh Doughnuts which are both excellent, or one of the city’s many bakeries.
