Calgary is a city with a lot going on, all the time. Whatever you’re into, whether you’re heading there for business or pleasure, you’ll no doubt find plenty to see and do. In this week’s blog post we’re bring you essential Calgary experiences that you should try and add to your itinerary while there.

See Calgary from above. By ascending to the top of the Calgary Tower, you can get a fabulous panoramic view of the city from 181 metres above. Want to prolong that viewing experience? Make a dinner booking at Sky 360, the Tower’s revolving restaurant.

Visit Canada Olympic Park. Did you know that in the summer you can zip-line down the very same ski jump that British underdog Eddie the Eagle Edwards did back in the Calgary Olympics? There’s tons of activities on offer at the Olympic Park in both summer (mountain biking, mini-golf, luge carts, lots of kids activities) and winter (luge, bobsleigh, skating, tubing).

Eat some Alberta beef. You’ll have no trouble finding a decent steak in Calgary, but you can’t go wrong at CHARCUT Roast House, where the beef is butchered in house and everything it comes served with is absolutely delicious.

Take a helicopter tour over the Rockies. Calgary is situated in an incredibly beautiful part of the world, and getting to view the city from above, and the mountains surrounding it, is an amazing experience. Mountain View Helicopters offers tours year-round, ranging from 30 minute to two hour flights.

Cut a rug at Ranchman’s. This dancehall and cookhouse is a Calgary institution, and guaranteed good time whether you’re into country music or not. Dance lessons are offered most nights, so if you’ve ever wanted to learn how to do the two-step, here’s your chance. They also have a mechanic bull to try and ride if you’re feeling especially brave or have strong thighs.

Watch penguins waddle at the Calgary Zoo. The educational programs on offer at the Calgary Zoo are outstanding, and offer many chances to get closer to the animals. Watching the penguins go for their daily walk is definitely a highlight of any visit, and being there to watch the big cats get fed is always a thrill.

Learn a little about the history of the city at The Glenbow Museum. Whether your interests run to cowboys, First Nations peoples, art, Military, or Mounties, the Glenbow Museum is a very cool place to spend a few hours.
